Illness

Any child who shows signs of illness over the past 24 hours should not be sent to the center. Such signs include but not limited to, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, rash, deep cough or sore throat.

Please do not give your child with a fever in the morning a "fever reducer" medicine and then bring him/her to TTCC. This often masks symptoms of a contagious illness, which is then spread to the entire enrollment.

TTCC staff has been trained to recognize the signs of illness and routinely inspect every child as mandated by the Virginia Department of Social Services. Any child whose physical condition appears infection to others will not be permitted to remain at the center. Your child will be isolated from others and you will be contacted to come and pick up your child immediately.

Hygiene

Head lice must be reported and treated with all nits removed before being allowed to return to TTCC. Parents must notify the center immediately when their child has been diagnosed with communicable illness other than common cold. In the case of communicable illness exclusion from the center will be based on the State Health Department Disease chart as well as Healh Department reccomendations. Parents should report illness of immediate family members. The State of Virginia requires enforcement of these guideline, and so we do so out of the fairness to all TTCC families.

Injury

Slight injuries will receive First Aid from a staff member and a "Bump Notice" describing the incident and treatment given, will be placed in your child's cubby. Please sign and return the notice to the office.

In the event of a serious injury, or if there's any doubt the child should be seen by a doctor, parents will be notified immediately. Necessary steps will be taken to obtain aid for serious injury. For emergency purposes, parents are responsible for making sure TTCC has the most current numbers (home, work & cell) for you and your emergency contacts.

In emergencies, contact will be made in this order:

  • Parent/guardian
  • Emergency contacts
  • Physician
  • Hospital

In extreme emergency, 911 will be called.

Medication

TTCC staff are only permitted by the state to administer medication if:

The child's name is on the medication.

Medication is the original container with the label attached.

Medication dispenser with correct dosage must be brought by the parent/guardian.

A medicine authorization form is complete by the the parent/guardian. This authorization is valid for only 1 week.
For medication required longer than 1 week, the medicine authorization may be signed by the child's physician. This authorization is valid up to one year.

Medication can only be administered  by TTCC staff who have met a MAT state requirement.

Over The Counter Tropical Skin Products

These products are: sunscreen, insect repellent, and diaper cream. All products must be supplied by the parent/legal guardian with the child's name on it and expiration may not have been expired. An OTC Authorization form must be completed by the parent/legal guardian with the child's name, date and correct product/manufacturer's name (ie. Banana Boat, Desitin, Equate.) The OTC Authorization is valid up to a year. A new OTC form must be completed if product is replaced with a different brand.

Allergies

Parents are required to notify TTCC of any allergies your child has. Allergies must be documented with an Allergy Plan completed and signed by the child's physician.
(Example - soy milk in lieu of regular milk, is EPI pen required or special medication)

Allergy plans will be posted in the kitchen, given to the child's teacher and kept in the child's file.

When sending in for for special holiday's, birthdays, and class activities, please check your child's teacher regarding allergies.

Nutrition

Any changes will be indicated on these menus. Breakfast will be provided to all children at the center 9am, lunch 12pm, and snack 3pm.

Children arriving between 6:30am & 7:30am may bring a nutritious snack if they cannot wait for breakfast. School agers may bring breakfast items. (Candy and gum are not breakfast items and are not allowed.)

TTCC does not serve breakfast to school agers during the schoolyear, with the exception of days when school is closed. On school closings, school age children will be served breakfast, lunch, and snack at the center's scheduled times School age children may bring a nutritional bag lunch during the summer months.

Exceptions to this policy are allowed for religious or medical reasons. If exceptions need to be made for medical reasons, then a note must be provided by the child's physician or an allergy plan as outlined in the "Allergies" section.
